Bauchi First Lady sponsors treatment of 1000 malnourished children

The First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar has sponsored the treatment of about 1000 children who suffered ailment as a result of malnutrition in the state.

The children were sponsored through her pet project, Bauchi Sustainable Women Economic Empowerment and Peace Initiative (BSWEEP).

She said through the programme, about 1, 000 children who suffered ailment as a result of malnutrition in parts of the state in the year 2016 were cured.

Addressing newsmen on the activities undertaken by her office and the pet project within the period under review, the first lady explained that the affected children were fed with a special food produced by the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Program (BSADP) using ‘Soya beans, millet and groundnuts as ingredients to make them regain their health and strength.

According to her, the BSWEEP has also sponsored mothers of the malnourished children to be trained by the BSADP on how to prepare such foods themselves so that they could continue to feed them and teach other women whose children were also affected.

Hajiya Hadiza further said that her office has assisted 600 pregnant women in various hospitals in the state during the year 2016 with babies’ kits and mosquito nets urging all expectant mothers to register at health facilities and be going to hospitals regularly for ‘ante natals’ so they could benefit from similar gestures.

On her programs for the New Year 2017, the first lady said plan is under way to train 400 women Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Liman Katagum village of Bauchi Local Government Area of the state on various skills and trades with a view to empowering them economically.
