Today, January 28th, 2025, the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) Abuja Headquarters proudly hosted the 3rd Annual Award of Excellence of the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation), celebrating Nigeria’s unsung heroes, frontline health workers, at the Abuja edition.

The event recognized the exceptional contributions of health workers in Abuja, with five awardees honored for their dedication to improving healthcare delivery in underserved communities.

Honoring these individuals is vital as it not only celebrates their commitment but also inspires others to uphold excellence in healthcare.

Dr Aminu Magashi, the founder of the foundation also announced a significant increase in prize value, doubling the impact of the awards and encouraging broader participation from grassroots healthcare professionals.

By doing so, the AMG Foundation hopes to emphasize the importance of their contributions and inspire others to join the effort in improving Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.

In an effort to expand the scope of recognition, the 2025 awards will introduce a new category for health journalists who report impactful stories from the grassroots.

Dr Magashi highlighted the pivotal role of the media in health advocacy and awareness, stating that journalists are key to amplifying the voices of communities and bringing attention to critical healthcare issues.

Additionally, the awards will expand beyond Abuja, Kano, and Bauchi to include more states, ensuring a wider reach and greater representation of Nigeria’s healthcare heroes.

One of the highlights of the event was the heartfelt vote of thanks by Madam Binta M. Ahmed, a registered nurse and midwife with over 30 years of experience and one of this year’s award recipients.

She expressed her profound gratitude to the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation) for recognizing the often-overlooked efforts of grassroots health workers.

“This award is not just a personal honor but a testament to the resilience and dedication of all frontline health workers who continue to serve our communities tirelessly,” she said.

Madam Binta Ahmed also emphasized the importance of such recognition in boosting morale and encouraging others to pursue excellence in their roles.

“After three decades in this profession, it is incredibly fulfilling to see our sacrifices acknowledged.

“This moment motivates me to continue making an impact, and I am truly inspired by the Foundation’s vision to celebrate healthcare professionals across the country. Thank you for shining a light on our efforts.”
