The Association for the Advancement of Family Planning (AAFP), says government’s commitment toward achieving the goal of Family Planning (FP) by 2030 will accelerate global progress.

Chairman of AAFP Technical Management Committee, Dr Ejike Oji stated this in a statement on Nigeria’s journey toward achieving FP 2030 Partnership issued in Abuja.

He emphasised the need for renewed FP 2030 commitment, saying it would hep in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

He said: We need commitments toward achieving the goal of the Family Planning 2030; it will help to accelerate global progress on UHC and the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to collectively transform the lives of women, girls and communities for generations to come.

“It will also contribute to and benefit the largest and most active community of practice on rights-based family planning in the world.”

The medical practitioner, who called for government’s commitment, said it would offer access to an international platform from which the country could demonstrate leadership by increasing visibility of efforts, learn and exchange with other countries and organisations.

Oji said such commitment would deepen collaboration with global community of leaders, experts, advocates and implementers working to address the most challenging barriers to expanding voluntary access to and use of modern contraceptives.

The vision statement of FP2030 commitment is aimed at describing the changes various countries hope to bring about in the lives of their population with women and girls at the centre.
