The Lagos State Government says more women than men have been vaccinated in the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

The vaccination is also taking place in at least 33 states of the federation, Health Reporters can report.

Lagos State commenced COVID-19 vaccination on March 12, prioritising frontline health workers in the first phase of the exercise, with 507,00 doses of vaccines received from the Federal Government via the COVAX facility.

The state’s Commissioner of Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, in a series of tweets via his official Twitter handle @ProfAkinAbayomi, stated that 18,686 persons were vaccinated on March 24th alone, comprising of 8,841 males and 9,845 females.

He also said that so far, 93,227 persons had been vaccinated as of 24th of March, comprising 45,578 males (48.9 percent) and 47,649 females (51.1 percent)

He urged Lagos residents to endeavour to pre-register to get a date, location and time before going to vaccination sites where only about five or 10 people are expected within a given time.

Prof. Abayomi stressed the need to pre-register before visiting vaccination centres and how to do it: “We wish to again reiterate that there are two ways of registering for vaccination: pre-registration could be done online to get an appointment date and the location (where) to be vaccinated.”

The commissioner added that the registration portal allows identification of vaccination site closer to home or office as well as preferred date and time with, options between 8am and 10am, 10am and 12noon, and 12noon upward.

“Where pre-registration is not possible, residents could register for vaccination in any designated centre where data would be uploaded as appropriate,” the commissioner assured.

He said that the technical hitches currently being experienced with pre-registration portal had triggered large number of people turning out for registration at the vaccination centres, putting necessary measure in place to resolve the technical issues with online registration.

He expressed the hope that the registration portal will soon be available for seamless exercise.
