The Technical Adviser to the Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for enrolling 300,000 vulnerable Kano residents in free health insurance scheme.

Dr Magashi, who is also the Chairman of Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation) described the move as a significant step towards achieving universal health coverage in the state.

According to him, the scheme would benefit several individuals, especially those that are unable to afford healthcare services.

“The Kano state government’s efforts to provide free health insurance to vulnerable people have been praised by many, including doctors and beneficiaries of the scheme.

This initiative is expected to improve access to healthcare services, particularly for those who cannot afford them, and reduce the financial burden of healthcare costs on individuals and families,” Dr Magashi said.

Governor Yusuf has in a historic move to enhance healthcare access for Kano’s most vulnerable populations, launched the ‘Abba Care Initiative,’ enrolling over 300,000 individuals for free health insurance coverage.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who disclosed this in a statement, said the beneficiaries include pregnant women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, inmates in correctional facilities, and individuals living with sickle cell anemia.

The initiative, fully funded and managed by the Kano State Contributory Health Management Agency (KCHMA), is designed to ensure marginalized groups can access quality healthcare services at no cost in designated facilities across the state.

Governor Yusuf described the program as a cornerstone of his administration’s vision for inclusive governance, reaffirming his commitment to the health and welfare of Kano’s underprivileged citizens.

The bold initiative marks a significant step toward achieving universal healthcare coverage and improving the quality of life for the people of Kano state.
