The Chairman of the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, has congratulated the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Disabled over the creation of the Department of People with Disabilities under the ministry.

The Kano State Executive Council presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had approved the creation of the Department of People with Disabilities under the Ministry of Women, Children, and Disabled, to properly cater for the people with special needs.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya disclosed this while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House in Kano.

It would be recalled that Dr Magashi, the Hon. Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani (HOD), all the Ministry’s directors, relevant NGOs and stakeholders, had during a launch meeting held in February 2025, deliberated on the imperatives of creating a department to specifically cater for people with special needs.

“The Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Disabled, with the coming of this government in May 2023 under the able leadership of His Excellency Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reorganised the ministry and added a mandate for the “Disabled” and renamed the ministry.

“In line with that, a Department of People with Disability backed by a director is desirable to galvanise actions and programmes and interventions to support People with Disability in the state,” Dr Magashi stated during the launch meeting with the Commissioner and other relevant stakeholders.

He added that the vision to establish the Kano State Commission for the People with Disability in line with the signed law can be realised and the ministry’s department will serve as its supervisory and ensure proper coordination and oversight.
