The Enugu State Ministry of Health has advised families and individuals to focus on preventive healthcare to save money for other needs.
The Director of Public Health in the ministry, Dr. Okechukwu Ossai, told newsmen in Enugu that the advice became necessary in view of the economic recession and its effect on the balance sheet of most homes.
Dr. Ossai said that the approach should be preventive in order to save more money for the family and individual.
“We should really focus more on preventive measures; these preventive measures are the basic things that will protect us against ill-health and diseases, especially communicable diseases,” he said.
The director further urged the people to take seriously the environmental and personal hygiene and preventive measures that the government always advertised in the media.
He cited the use of insecticide treated mosquito nets which could stop people coming down with malaria.
He said that the use of such nets would help to prevent the disease and save them the money they could have used to procure drugs against malaria.
The director urged parents, especially mothers, to present their children for vaccination against the six-killer diseases.
