FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello has raised concern over the issue of drug abuse, stating that it is a huge challenge, as a number of crimes and criminal activities can be attributed to the root cause.
He therefore called on the relevant stakeholders to liaise together in bringing an end to the current menace in the country.
Bello gave the indication when a delegation led by Prof. Ahmed Mora, the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria Governing Chairman, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister.
Drug abuse is a huge challenge in Nigeria as a number of crimes and criminal activities could be attributed to it. The multiplier effect of the control of drug abuse in Nigeria will be enormous, he added.
The Minister pledged the collaboration of the Federal Capital Territory Authority with the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, especially in the activities of the Council’s Inspection Committee.
The PCN Governing Chairman, while speaking commended the FCT Administration for its robust approach to drug distribution within the territory.
Drug abuse is the use of certain chemicals, for the purpose of creating pleasurable effects on the brain.
According to news medical website, there are over 190 million drug users around the world, and it has been on the increase, especially among youths under the age of 30.
