FCT NAWOJ Congratulates Dr Magashi on appointment as Chair of NMA Committee on Health Policy, Planning

The FCT Abuja Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has congratulated the Coordinator of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), Dr Aminu Magashi Garba on his appointment as the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) National Committee on Health Policy  and Planning.

A Press Statement issued by the FCT NAWOJ Chairperson, Bassey Ikpang described the appointment as a true reflection of his dedication to improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria, and his longstanding commitment to health advocacy across Africa.

She noted that Dr Magashi’s appointment is a well-deserved recognition of his tireless efforts in strengthening health policy and planning in Nigeria.

“We are confident that his visionary leadership will bring about transformative changes that will benefit the entire healthcare system, particularly for marginalized and underserved communities.

“Dr Magashi’s leadership and track record, especially as the founder of the AHBN have earned him immense respect within the healthcare sector and beyond. His pledge to develop and implement a new 5-year strategic plan for the NMA is a  commendable step that will positively shape healthcare delivery in the country.

“We also appreciate his commitment to ensuring that the ‘Health Sector Renewal and Investment Initiative,’ leads to tangible improvements in the quality of healthcare services across Nigeria.”

Bassey added that FCT NAWOJ is particularly encouraged by Dr Magashi’s inclusive approach to healthcare reforms, “which aligns with our shared vision of advocating for equitable healthcare for all Nigerians, especially vulnerable groups such as women, children, and persons with disabilities.

“We trust that under his guidance, the NMA will play a key role in shaping health policies that leave no one behind.

“We also commend the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) under Professor Bala Audu for recognizing Dr Magashi’s vast contributions to health policy and for entrusting him with this vital role.

“His unwavering dedication to ensuring that healthcare policies are not only impactful but also inclusive has always set him apart as a leading voice in the sector.

“As he embarks on this important journey, we offer our full support and encouragement, knowing that his contributions will result in significant strides toward the betterment of Nigeria’s healthcare system. We wish him every success and pray for wisdom and guidance as he assumes this esteemed position,” she added.

Dr Magashi was recently appointed as chairman of the NMA National Committee on Health Policy and Planning.

In a detailed list of appointments of Chairmen of NMA Comittees released on Tuesday by Prof. Audu; Dr Magashi is announced as the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) National Committee Chairman on Policy and Planning.

While appreciating Prof. Bala Audu led National Exco, Dr Magashi has pledged to support NMA develop and implement a new five-year strategic plan as well as support NMA to play a critical and strategic role in shaping the Nigerian Government Policy  “Health Sector Renewal and Investment Initiative” with the lens of ensuring improved quality of care and services.
