FCT NDLEA seizes 981.9kg of narcotics at Abaji

Abuja, Dec. 16, 2014; The FCT Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), says it has seized about 981.9 kg of Cannabis Sativa from five suspects at Abaji in the FCT. The FCT Commander of the NDLEA, Mr Dennis Obiefule disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja. He said that this was achieved as a result of the increased surveillance and check points at all major entries into the FCT.

Obiefule warned all drug traffickers and barons to stay off the FCT and also cautioned parents to monitor the activities and movement of their children so as not to fall prey to the use of drugs. Mr Peter Adegbe, spokesman of the command, who gave a breakdown of the seizure and arrest at Abaji, said that one Samson Musa was arrested with 738 kg of Cannabis Sativa on Dec. 6 at Abaji.

He said that two other suspects, Mr Goddy Asile were arrested with 106.5kg of cannabis while Jolly Salihu was arrested with 61.9kg of cannabis on Dec. 4 at Abaji. He said that earlier in November two other suspects were arrested, one Mr Emmanuel Orji was arrested with 60kg of cannabis while Mr Ohis Eliso was arrested with 15.5kg of the same narcotics.

He said that the five suspects are currently in court for prosecution while the seized narcotics will be destroyed immediately the courts gives the go ahead for it.

“We have concluded Investigations for most of these cases and the suspects have been charged to court while we await the decisions of the court,” he said.

He decried the use of narcotics especially by the youths and warned all those involved in the illicit business to desist before the law catches up with them. Adegbe also called on all other stakeholders such as religious organizations, NGOs, schools and parents to join the NDLEA in the fight against narcotics and illicit drugs.
