The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has convened a three-day meeting of the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent, and Elderly Health (RMNCAEH) CTG between April 14–16, 2025, to strengthening accountability for women’s health in Nigeria:
The meeting reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to improving coordination and driving results across the health sector.
“We are proud to announce that the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) has been reassigned as Chair of the Leadership, Coordination and partnership Sub-committee of the RMNCAEH Core Technical Group (CTG). This continued opportunity to continue serving underscores AHBN’s strong track record in championing accountability, equity, and inclusive governance in health,” a statement from the ministry said.
It added that in line with the broader Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (HSRII) and Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), the Federal Ministry of Health has re-organised the RMNCAH+N Multi-stakeholder platform into a new RMNCAEH CTG structure to strengthen alignment with national priorities, foster better partner coordination, and streamline implementation.
Responding, the AHBN extended heartfelt appreciation to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammadi Ali Pate, and the leadership of the Ministry and that of the Family Health Department, for the bold and strategic move.
“We also warmly welcome WHO’s co-chairing of the sub-committee and look forward to continued collaboration and partnership.
“Our engagement in the CTG aligns with other relevant interventions that promote Women, Children and Adolescent health, such as the Collaborative Advocacy Action Plan (CAAP), Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) movement, and Strengthening Accountability for Women’s Health among others.
“With our reassigned role and a clear direction, we are confident in our collective ability to drive impactful change for women, children, adolescents, and the elderly across Nigeria,” a statement from the AHBN said.
The Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria, is an organisation that uses budget advocacy and accountability to improve health service delivery in Africa.
AHBN’s main purpose is to advance and embed improvements in health budget allocation, spending, transparency, participation, and accountability aimed at increasing greater investment in health and wellbeing.
