The Federal Government of Nigeria said it is set to host the 2024 Nigeria Health Sector-Wide Joint Annual Review (JAR), as a strategic move to revamp the country’s health sector.
The review to be hosted by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, will bring together key stakeholders in a landmark initiative to reshape health outcomes across the nation.
A statement by the Head of Information and Public Relations of the ministry, Alaba Balogun, said the review will take place from November 6-8, 2024, in Abuja.
According to him, it is the first of its kind and promises a comprehensive approach to assessing and advancing the nation’s health goals.
Tagged under the theme of a Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), this maiden review aims to evaluate recent achievements and identify areas for growth within the sector, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to fostering a healthier Nigeria.
Alaba Balogun, noted that the JAR meeting would provide an essential platform to analyse the sector’s key performance indicators through two main review components: technical and political.
The technical sessions are set to offer in-depth analysis by various health experts, where stakeholders will closely examine progress, shortfalls, and trends within Nigeria’s healthcare delivery systems.
These sessions will focus on data-driven assessments of critical metrics, covering topics like maternal and child health, disease prevention, and healthcare accessibility in urban and rural areas.
A high-level political session to complement the technical session has been designed to secure the political will and commitment required to push forward Nigeria’s health priorities.
This segment is expected to attract key government officials, policymakers, and international partners, all united by a shared commitment to enhancing the healthcare landscape for all Nigerians.
The outcomes of this meeting will be instrumental to shaping future health reforms, guiding resource allocation, and setting targeted strategies for national health improvement.
This initiative marks a significant step towards achieving a robust and sustainable health system, with the Ministry aiming to establish the JAR as an annual benchmark for progress in Nigeria’s health sector reform journey.
As November approaches, the health sector eagerly anticipates insights and action points that will emerge from this trailblazing JAR event, confident that it will lead to measurable improvements in health outcomes across Nigeria.
