A new case of Wild Polio Virus was discovered in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno state.
This was disclosed in an email shared by Dr. Auwal A.A. Abubakar, IM State EOC, Bauchi state Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHDA).
The email stated that, “We have received confirmation of a wild polio virus case in Monguno LGA, Borno state. This brings the total confirmed WPV1 cases to four.”
According to Dr. Abubakar, the case was discovered on a two-year-old child in Kumalia Ward of Monguno LGA of the state, adding that the genetic sequencing indicates the closest match to the confirmed WPV1
in Jere LGA.
“Kumalia Ward is inaccessible, the family travelled out of Kumalia ward directly to Maiduguri seeking medical care for the child, where the case was seen at a Clinic and investigated by the Assistant DSNO.
The family thereafter returned back to Monguno and efforts were successfully made by the state team to contact the family to return to Maiduguri for further investigation,” Dr. Abubakar said.
He added that once initial laboratory results were released, pending confirmation from the reference laboratory, a full investigation report will be shared through the State EOCs.
