The Mai of Kaltungo in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe state, Alhaji Saleh Muhammad, has appealed to the state government for more health centres in Garin Bako and Garin Korom.
The emir made the appeal when the President of Imperative Initiative for Motivation of Global Care (IIMGC), and officials of the State Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources, visited him in Kaltungo.
He said the only health centre in the community is located in Garin Korom, a mountainous area without a good road for vehicles.
“The journey to the place is supposed to take about 45 minutes’ drive but due to the deplorable route, you can’t reach it in less than eight hours. During the last raining season, three pregnant women were carried on a local stretcher to the hospital but one and the baby died on the way,” he said.
Besides, he said “there is no school in Garin Bako with 1,429 households, and appealed to the IIMGC to come to their aid.
The Commissioner for Environment and Forest Resources, Hajiya Sa’adatu Sa’ad, said the IIMGC was in Gombe to address the challenges of the citizens, particularly in the rural areas.
Hajiya Sa’adatu said Gombe had numerous challenges, especially erosion and other environment related issues, which the state government was committed to addressing.
The President of IIMGC, Mrs. Silvia Clinton, said they are in the community to give light where there is darkness.
“We are in Gombe to give hope for the hopeless. I will go round the 11 Local Government Areas of the state to identify critical areas where IIMGC could assist.
Newsmen reports that the team also visited Ture Okra and Lapan villages as well as the palace of Mai Tangale, in Billiri LGA of the state.
