Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf Kano State has officially inaugurated a 25-member State Taskforce on Immunization to strengthen the immunization programmes across the state.
A statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, obtained by Health Reporters on Thursday, highlighted that the Taskforce members were carefully selected for their proven track records and technical expertise, with the aim of positively impacting immunization efforts and primary healthcare services in Kano State.
Sanusi Dawakin Tofa said rhe Taskforce’s responsibilities include providing leadership and support for the implementation of all immunization activities, as well as supporting other primary healthcare services.
They are also tasked with reviewing and adopting the state’s annual immunization work plan, ensuring it aligns with the State Health Annual Operation Plan (AOP).
Other key duties include conducting quarterly reviews of the immunization work plan, advocating for timely and adequate resource allocation, ensuring the judicious use of funds, and monitoring progress in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health plus Nutrition (RMNCAAH+N) indices.
The Taskforce will also review progress in routine immunization delivery to ensure all eligible children are reached and will provide quarterly updates to the State Executive Council.
Governor Yusuf expressed the Kano State Government’s expectation that the Taskforce will provide the necessary oversight, political, and technical support to ensure the complete eradication of vaccine-preventable diseases in the state.
According to the statement, the Taskforce is to be chaired by the State Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo who also doubles as the Commissioner for Local Government and Cheiftancy Affairs with the Commissioner of Health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf as co-chair.
