Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed into law, the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (KNCDC) agency on Wednesday at the Government House.

By signing the law, Governor Yusuf has made history by making Kano, the first state in Nigeria to established a state-level CDC.

The landmark legislation marks a significant paradigm shift in the state’s approach to public health, and demonstrated Governor Yusuf’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of people of Kano State.

It was stated that the KNCDC model is a testament to the governor’s promise to prioritise public health.

By fostering collaboration among government agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations, the KNCDC ensures a coordinated and comprehensive response to public health challenges.

With the KNCDC, Kano State can expect increased resource allocation for critical areas like disease surveillance, laboratory testing, research, and targeted public health interventions.

“This will enable early detection and rapid response to outbreaks, minimizing their impact.”

The KNCDC law provides a clear legal framework, outlining the organization’s powers, responsibilities, and accountability. This ensures responsible governance and effective management.

Governor Yusuf’s leadership has laid a solid foundation for a healthier future in Kano State.

The KNCDC serves as a model for other states in Nigeria and beyond, showcasing the transformative power of proactive and collaborative public health initiatives.
