The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, says immunisation of children against polio and child killer diseases remains the panacea to the myriad of health challenges in Nigeria.
Alhaji Aliyu said this in Sokoto on Friday at the monthly meeting of the state Taskforce Committee on polio eradication and improvement in routine immunisation coverage.
The deputy governor stressed the importance of immunisation in the current outbreak of meningitis in some local government areas of the state.
He lauded the relentless efforts of members of the committee towards ensuring a healthier state.
Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Balarabe Kakale, said “The current meningitis outbreak affected many states in the country, including Sokoto.
“Happily however with the efforts of the state government towards combating the ugly situation, the number of meningitis cases had drastically dropped.
“The state government had mobilised adequate free drugs and medical personnel, for the treatment of patients across the state,” he said.
