The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has promised to support media outlets with tools and technology that will allow them work more efficiently and reach wider audience in 2025.
The IOM Chief of Mission in Nigeria, Ms Paola Pace, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeron Tuesday in Abuja.
Pace said, “We recognise the essential role the media plays in disseminating critical information to the public and amplifying the voices of voiceless.
“This is to strengthen our partnership; we plan to further invest in media capacity building programmes that focuses on migration issues, disaster reporting, and peacebuilding and humanitarian storytelling.
“IOM is currently implementing holistic peacebuilding initiatives in the northwest and north-central regions, such as peaceful-radio messaging, conflict sensitivity training for journalists and radio professionals, in collaboration with our implementing partner, the Centre for Development and Democracy (CDD).
“In 2025, we aim to expand this initiative by providing journalists and radio professionals with enabling work tools, through our implementing partner, the Centre for Development and Democracy (CDD).
“In 2025, we aim to broaden this initiative to train journalists on how to cover sensitive migration topics responsibly and effectively, as well as improving media access to resources that will enhance their operations.”
The head of mission further reiterated the organisation’s plan to support media outlets with tools and technology that would allow them work more efficiently and reach wider audience, particularly in underserved regions.
