The Jigawa Government said it has commenced the training of 192 health workers on Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses.
The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, disclosed this at the inauguration of the training programme in Dutse, the state capital.
Newsmen report that the participants were selected from various health centres in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
Dr. Ibrahim said the health workers in rural areas would receive training on how to diagnose illnesses among children.
According to him, the training will also educate participants on appropriate drugs prescription for sick children.
He said that the workshop would focus on common diseases among children such as malaria, diarrhoea, pneumonia and malnutrition.
He added that the training would help to improve the health status of children and reduce infant mortality in the state.
It was reported that the training was organised by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with UNICEF and Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency.
