Kaduna Assembly to establish State Contributory Management Health Authority

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has ordered two of its committees to come up with a clean copy of the bill seeking to establish the State Contributory Health Management Authority.

The bill was part of efforts of the state government to provide efficient healthcare services through a contributory scheme.

At its sitting on Tuesday, the assembly directed its committees on health and judiciary to make necessary legislative input and report back to it on April 11, 2017.

Earlier, the Majority Leader, Mohammed Inuwa said that when established, the authority would ensure access to effective quality and affordable health care services and protect residents from financial hardship in accessing healthcare.

Contributing to the debate, Nasiru Maikano and Kasim Iliyasawa, said the bill was timely and demonstrated government commitment to providing accessible healthcare services to the people.

They agreed that it would boost the level of health facilities available to the residents of the state.

Another member, Nuhu Shadalafiya said the contributory health scheme would help both the young and old as regards health issues.

“It is something of joy to see the passage of the bill at the assembly even though there are some areas that need to be fashioned out; we are going to see to its workability when we go into the committee session.”

Shadalafiya advised the committee and state government to enlighten the public on the bill, to generate interest, robust discussion and quality input to enrich the law that would be passed.
