The Kaduna State Government has awarded contract for the rehabilitation of 123 health centres in six local government areas with high rate of maternal mortality in the state.
The Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Muhammad Abdullahi, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Kaduna, by the ministry’s Public Relation Officer, Malam Barau Usman.
The commissioner said that the aim was to open up access to health care, so as to reduce high rate of maternal death in the affected areas.
According to him, more than 1,000 women dies annually during child birth, mostly in the six local governments.
“The contract is for the rehabilitation of health care facilities in the six most affected LGAs namely Kubau, Ikara, Igabi, Kaura, Chikun and Kachia.”
Abdullahi said that the contractors had been given eight weeks to complete the projects.
The commissioner assured that the government would settle all its commitments under the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) including contract liabilities after due verification.
The SDGs Director, Mr. Nuhu Moses, also urged the contractors to ensure quality of work to strengthen their relationship with the state government.
