The Kano State Government has approved N1.96 billion for the purchase of state of the art medical equipment for two hospitals at Giginyu and Zoo Road.
The state Commissioner of Information, Malam Mohammed Garba, made this known in Kano while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly State Executive Council meeting.
Newsmen report that the two hospitals which are under construction, were inherited from the administration of former Governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.
He said the council approved N964 million for provision of medical infrastructure at Giginyu hospital while the remaining N1 billion would be spent on Zoo Road hospital.
“Work at Giginyu Hospital has reached 90 per cent completion while the Zoo Road hospital is about 80 per cent completed.”
He said the equipment to be provided at the hospitals included MIR machine, CT scan machine, mammography machine, X-ray machine, hemodialysis machine as well as beds and bedding, among other.
The commissioner said that the completion of the two hospitals would stop medical tourism especially to Egypt, India and other countries.
