The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Malam Mohammed Garba, said the state government earmarked N1.7 billion in the 2017 budget for the upgrade of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
Malam Garba disclosed this in an interview with the newsmen on in Kano.
According to him, the state government will do everything possible to ensure the upgrade of the hospital before the end of 2017.
The commissioner said the hospital will be provided with modern equipment to enable it to compete with hospitals around the world.
“The committee in charge of the project will also look into the possibility of converting the hospital to a teaching hospital,” he said.
He added that the Giginyu General Hospital and the Peadiatric Hospital at Zoo Road had reached 90 per cent completion, saying by May this year, the hospitals will be inaugurated by President Muhammad Buhari.
He announced that the state government had also commenced arrangements to introduce Faculty of Medicine in the state-owned Northwest University.
Malam Garba noted that the state government has already awarded contract for the construction of laboratories in the university and provision of necessary modern equipment.
