Kano Gov’t earmarks N3bn for Humanitarian Affairs, to establish Bank for Poverty Alleviation

The Kano State Government has earmarked N3 billion Naira for various interventions in the year 2025, in its determination to face and address humanitarian challenges in the state.

This was disclosed by the Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba while briefing journalists shortly after meeting with members of the state House Assembly during the 2025 budget defence.

Dr Magashi who delivered the budget defence presentation on behalf of the ministry, revealed that apart from the N3 billion proposed budget for the programmes of the Ministry in the coming year, various intervention programmes were also scheduled for the year.

He summarized some key interventions as captured in the proposed budget which include establishment of the Humanitarian Interventions Trust Fund, Business case for the Kano State Bank for Poverty Alleviation, development of a 5-year strategic plan and 2025 annual operational plan.

Similarly, the technical adviser also announced a capacity building for disaster and emergency response officers across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state in addition to the purchase of emergency equipment, procurement and distribution of relief materials to displaced persons and vulnerable people in the state.

Dr Magashi who was in company of the immediate past Commissioner of the Ministry, Hajiya Amina Sani Abdullahi (HOD) expressed gratitude for the gesture done on him by the outgoing Commissioner for her approval to him to make the budget defence presentation before the state Assembly members and eventually addressed the media on the outcome of the meeting.

It could be recalled that on November 12, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed Dr Magashi as the Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The governor stated that Dr Magashi’s impressive credentials, highlighting his decades-long dedication to public service and his commitment to improving the lives of underserved communities in the state.

“The governor’s choice reflects his deep trust in Dr Magashi’s extensive experience and proven leadership, recognizing him as a pivotal figure in achieving the administration’s humanitarian goals.

Dr Magashi, with over 30 years in development and humanitarian work, is well-regarded for his influential initiatives.

His strategic insights and leadership were also vital as Chairman of the health transition committee, where he collaborated closely with Governor Yusuf to craft a transformative agenda for Kano State’s healthcare future.

He also led the technical committee which supported Governor Yusuf to develop his campaign blueprint in 2022.
