Kano NASS aspirant reels out agenda, health sector on top

An aspirant for Dawakin Tofa/Rimingado/Tofa Federal Constituency in Kano State, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has said that if elected he ensure the health of Nigerians is improved through sponsoring of bills that will improve the health sector.

Speaking while reeling out his agenda in Kano on Monday, the aspirant said that if given the mandate by residents of his constituency, he will propose a review on the national sanitation act to empower and strengthen the environmental sanitation officers and other public health related matters to enforce adherence to issues related to sanitation and public health.

Sanusi Dawakin Tofa further said that if elected, he will push for the amendment of the National Health Bill that will replace the 2014 National Health Act with an upward review of 2% of the National Consolidated Revenue Fund to be dedicated to Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

He revealed that if given the mandate, he will sponsor what he christened National Health Catastrophic Trust Fund bill that will cater for cancers, sickle cell disease and other blood related emergency problems.

While saying that he is on a rescue mission, the aspirant lamented that his constituency had suffered poor representation since the past few years and that he is contesting to ensure that the voices of his people are heard at the national assembly and “bring to them untapped opportunities.”

The aspirant who is contesting under the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) further said that he will: “Explore opportunities at federal level and with development partners and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to improve quality primary health care services including emergency services and drug revolving schemes.

“Work with state level health agencies to support hospitals and clinics in the 3 local government areas to ensure they are operating at optimal level and providing 24 hours services throughout out the year.”

Some of his other agenda, he said, include “National Social welfare bill to cater for the needs of elderly, orphans and vulnerable children who are deficient in food, shelter and clothing.

“National Education Bill to harmonize all major laws in the education sector that can guarantee free education from primary to tertiary as part of the basic rights of all Nigerian citizens

“Sponsor a bill for halal foods with particular emphasis on meat and beverages to safeguard the teaming population who care to consume halal products only.

“Pursue the amendment of the pension act to allow pensioners and serving employees from private sector access to their savings at any justifiable time.”
