Kano releases N290 million for immunization

Kano State Government has released N290 million out of the N350 million budgeted for immunization in 2017.

The Executive Secretary, State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr Nasir Mahmud, stated this at a joint press conference with Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) and Accountability Mechanism for MNCH in Kano State (AMMKaS), to commemorate 2017 Vaccination Week and create awareness on the importance of vaccination.

He said immunization remains a priority for the state, which prompted the released of the fund for immunization in 2017. Dr Mahmud said the state government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje prioritizes immunization that is why in 2017 N350 million is allocated to finance immunization activities.

The executive secretary said for effective immunization implementation in the year, the state has strengthened collaboration with the Emirate Council and the 44 LGAs Chairmen in the state to ensure that services at facility levels and communities are done efficiently as required and every child is vaccinated  He therefore urged communities and people in Kano state to ensure every eligible child gets vaccinated as the board has carried out
sensitization at all levels involving over 7000 ward heads.

“The state government has given priority to immunization financing, the primary health care board will work with all stakeholders in the state to ensure that our collaboration is strengthened and we are able to improve on our services and wider reach for the children with vaccination, funds are available, we will ensure they are spent judiciously”

“It is the desire of Kano state to see that in the next few years, all children are fully vaccinated, we are working closely with the 44 LGAs chairmen in the state and the emirate council to ensure the program is doing well, we identify gaps and find means of addressing them,” the executive secretary added.
