Kano urges residents to prevent outbreak of meningitis, cholera

Kano State Government has advised residents of the state to take their personal and environmental hygiene seriously, to prevent against outbreak of meningitis and cholera.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, gave the advice on Thursday at a news conference. Dr Getso also urged the people to ensure sure that they sleep in well ventilated rooms in order to reduce the risk of contracting meningitis.

He said that the ministry had embarked on sensitisation of the people on preventive measures against the killer diseases such meningitis and cholera. The commissioner further said that the state had concluded plan for the polio immunisation exercise in April.

He called on the media and the traditional rulers to effectively mobilise the people of the state toward the success of the planned exercise. Newsmen, gathered that about 3.2 million children below the age of five have been targeted for immunisation in the state.
