The former Chairman of the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Transition Committee on Health, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, has congratulated the governor for establishing the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (KNCDC).
He described the move as a major step forward in the state’s fight against infectious diseases.
Dr Magashi, who is also the Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, said the new would play a crucial role in preventing, detecting, and responding to disease outbreaks, and it’s a testament to the government’s commitment to improving public health.

The KNCDC is expected to work closely with the state’s Ministry of Health and other partners to build effective public health collaboration and partnerships, which will strengthen the state’s core public health capabilities, including data and surveillance, laboratory capacity, workforce and institutions, prevention and response.
“The establishment of this agency is also a significant milestone in Kano state efforts to achieve health security, and also to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats.
“With the KNCDC in place, Kano state will be better equipped to handle disease outbreaks and improve the overall health and wellbeing of its citizens. As stakeholders and partners, we are congratulating you on this move as a major victory, and it’s a clear indication that the government is taking concrete steps to address the state’s public health challenges,” he said.

It would be recalled that the decision to establish the agency, was part of Governor Yusuf campaign blueprint during the 2023 electioneering campaigns, and Dr Magashi was one of the members that led the development of the blueprint.
It was also part of the recommendations of the transition sub-committee on health sector submitted to Governor Yusuf by the committee, which was also led by Dr Aminu Magashi.
