Lassa fever claims another life in Jigawa

The Jigawa Government has confirmed the death of another suspectedmale patient of Lassa fever in Jangargari village of Birnin Kudu local government area of the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Abba Zakari, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Dutse at the end of the State Executive Council meeting.

Health Reporters gathered that the death followed an earlier victim (names withheld) that came to Dutse, the state capital, with the virus from Port Harcourt, Rivers state three weeks ago.

The commissioner added that 26 other people that had contact with thedeceased were being quarantined.

“Though the victim had died, his blood sample was sent to Abuja for laboratory test, because the victim manifested all the signs of Lassa fever before he died,” he said.

Dr. Zakari said that the initial 26 people who were quarantined in the earlier case, has passed the 21 days mandatory test and none of them manifested symptom of the fever.

Jigawa state government has on January 27 confirmed the death of the first Lassa fever victim, who resided at Gujubaki village in Dutse local government area of the state.
