The National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged proprietors of drugs and vaccines stores to maintain their stocks within prescribed and approved temperatures at all times.
The South-East Zonal Coordinator of NAFDAC, Mr. Dauda Gimba told newsmen in Enugu that maintaining normal temperature of drugs and vaccines retains their capacity.
Mr. Gimba noted that most genuine drugs and vaccines fail to perform was due to temperature alteration, as well as exposure to harsh weather condition during storage.
“The issue of storage is a professional issue that has been proven scientifically that there are specific temperatures under which drugs and vaccines are supposed to be kept.
“Items that should be refrigerated should be only kept in a refrigerator, if they are kept on shelves and expose to high
temperatures, they get destroyed and become useless if not toxic to human use. It is advisable that whoever is handling drug or vaccines should have this knowledge to be able store them under recommended condition,” he said.
The zonal coordinator also appealed to associations that deal with drug and vaccine products to ensure their members adhere strictly to this professional guide.
He urged Nigerians to report any person found displaying or selling drug and vaccine products under harsh weather condition, especially leaving them directly under the scorch of the sun.
