NAWOJ Kano Calls for Stronger Collaboration to Promote Professionalism, Peace in Journalism

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has called for enhanced collaboration between the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), NAWOJ, security agencies, and development partners to promote sanity, professionalism, and ethical standards in the journalism profession, particularly among upcoming media practitioners.

The appeal was made by the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano State Chapter, Bahijja Malam Kabara, during a One-Day Peace Summit organized by YOSPIS, AMG Foundation, and the Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command.

The event, which attracted hundreds of youths, media professionals, academics, and community leaders, was held at the Khairan University Hall, Kano.

Bahijja Kabara commended the organizers for creating a vital platform that promotes peace, responsible journalism, and youth engagement.

She emphasized that closer cooperation between Nigeria Uninon of Journalists (NUJ), NAWOJ, and relevant stakeholders would help guide young journalists, discourage misinformation, and strengthen public trust in the media.

She also praised the Nigeria Police Force for its proactive engagement with the media and civil society, noting that such dialogue is crucial in fostering mutual understanding and sustaining peace within the society.

The summit was graced by several distinguished personalities, including the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Bakori; Dr. Bala Muhammad of Bayero University, Kano; DSP Haruna Kiyawa; Musa Abdullahi Sufi; Dr. Aminu Magashi; Comrade Abbas Ibrahim; representatives of the Emirate Council; Special Adviser on Security Matters, Hajiya Maimuna; as well as executives and members of AMG Foundation and other notable stakeholders.

NAWOJ Kano also applauded YOSPIS and AMG Foundation for their dedication to peacebuilding, youth development, and media enlightenment. Special recognition was given to the CEO of YOSPIS, Zahra’u Nasir Ahmad, for her exemplary leadership and passion for empowering women and young people.

“Women are proud to have visionary leaders like you,” the Chairperson stated, while wishing her greater achievements and continued success in her efforts toward national development.

The association reaffirmed its readiness to work with relevant partners to uphold ethical journalism, promote peace, and ensure a responsible media space that contributes positively to societal growth.
