The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has concluded a high-level two-day strategic session focused on shaping its operational blueprint for 2025.

In a statement issued on Friday, the agency said the planning workshop, held from June 10 to 11 in Abuja, convened critical stakeholders from across Nigeria’s emergency response network to chart a coordinated path forward.

The statement noted that the “Primary objective of the workshop was to evaluate current operational capacities, identify emerging challenges, and align priorities for the year ahead, in line with NEMA’s mandate to coordinate effective disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery across the country.”

It added, “Participants included senior management staff, heads of operations offices, zonal coordinators, and technical experts from relevant government agencies and humanitarian partners.

“During the sessions, participants reviewed the performance of the 2024 plan, analysed data from past emergency interventions, and engaged in group discussions to outline strategies for improving coordination, logistics, early warning systems, and community-based disaster risk reduction.”

In her opening remarks, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, emphasised the importance of “Strategic planning in ensuring timely and efficient emergency response. She reiterated the agency’s commitment to enhancing national resilience through proactive planning and multi-agency collaboration.

“At the end of the workshop, a draft 2025 Operational Plan was produced, incorporating inputs from all stakeholders.

“The plan is expected to serve as a roadmap for NEMA’s operations in the coming year, with a focus on building institutional capacity, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring rapid and inclusive response to disasters across Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
