The new leadership of the Nigeria Cancer Society (NCS) has paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) on Friday in Abuja.
The visit led by its President, Professor Abidemi Omonisi, underscored AHBN’s role as a strategic partner in advancing cancer advocacy and strengthening health systems in Nigeria.
The NCS team were received by the Coordinator of AHBN, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba alongside other staff of the organisation.
During the meeting, the discussions focused on strengthening the ongoing collaboration between AHBN and NCS, particularly in preparation for the upcoming World Cancer Day on February 4, 2025.
In his presentations, President of NCS, Prof. Omanis sought the AHBN’s partnership and technical support to amplify cancer awareness efforts and drive impactful initiatives.
The meeting also explored new opportunities to deepen collaboration, leveraging AHBN’s extensive expertise in advocacy, policy engagement, and resource mobilisation to support cancer control initiatives.
A lecturer from the College of Medicine, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Omanis emerged as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) for the term 2024–2026. He is a leader and advocate for cancer research, care, and prevention.
The NCS is the voice for cancer prevention and control in Nigeria. It serves as the umbrella body of all cancer advocates, researchers, survivors and all Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) with focus on cancer in Nigeria and beyond.
NCS is a volunteer-based organisation with members drawn from medical practitioners, survivors, policy makers, advocates, media, students and the general community. It is the umbrella body for all cancer related NGOs in Nigeria
