Nigeria inaugurates NCD Alliance coalition

The Nigerian Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Alliance was formally inaugurated in Lagos, after five years of existence, its Executive Director, Professor Sani Abubakar Malami said

NCD Alliance unites 2000 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in more than 170 countries, dedicated to improving NCD prevention and control worldwide.

Health Reporters gathered that over 40 national NGOs and CSOs involved in diabetes, cancer control, heart diseases, chest, mental health and sickle cell disorders were represented at the event.

The Alliance has among its objectives the acceleration of action to prevent premature deaths due to NCDs, advocacy for NCD policy and programs with the government and international partners as well as promoting the interests of patients and survivors.

According to Professor Malami who is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Cancer Society, a “Lagos Declaration” was issued at the inauguration, which committed the members of the alliance to unite and work together in the furtherance of its aims and objectives.
