The National Committee on Health Policy, Planning and Strategy Implementation of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), said is ready to commence the development of the NMA 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
Chair of the NMA National Committee on Health Policy, Planning and Strategy Implementation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday to newsmen in Abuja.
He said the committee is set to start development of the NMA 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, through a rigorous consultation of NMA members and review of the previous strategies.
“Esteemed NMA leaders and elders, I wish to humbly and sincerely inform you, the NMA Health Policy, Planning and Strategy Implementation Committee is ready to commence the development of the NMA 2025-2030 Strategic Plan through a rigorous consultation of NMA members, review of the previous strategies via key informants’ interviews and meetings, online surveys and focus groups discussions.
“This is a follow up to the 2024 NMA Health Summit and NEC that approved the development of the new strategy as captured in the communique released at the end of the Summit/NEC,” he said.
Dr Magashi added that Dr Ishak Lawal will serve as secretary to be working with him alongside other members to support the development of the NMA 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
Dr. Ishak Lawal is the Head of Department and Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Birnin-Kebbi.
He was a president of Association of Resident Doctors of University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada during his residency training period (2011/2012). He is also the Executive Director of End Cervical Cancer Nigeria Initiative (ECCNI).
He brings energy, passion, organisational and administrative skills to serve as the secretary of this esteemed committee and to work with me and other relevant members to develop the NMA 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
“As we wish all of us a prosperous 2025, we will come back to you with our plans soonest for the inception processes, as the committee holds its first planning meeting before the end of January 2025,” Magashi added.
The National President of NMA, Prof. Bala Audu, had in September appointed Dr Magashi as Chairman of the NMA National Committee on Health Policy, Planning and Strategy Implementation.
In a detailed list of appointments of Chairmen of NMA Comittees released on September 8, 2024 by the Prof Bala Audu led NMA (2024-2026), Dr Aminu Magashi Garba is announced as the National Committee Chairman on Policy and Planning.
While accepting the appointment, Dr Magashi has pledged to support NMA develop and implement a new five-year strategic plan as well as support NMA to play a critical and strategic role in shaping the Nigerian Government Policy “Health Sector Renewal and Investment Initiative” with the lens of ensuring improved quality of care and services.
