The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has led a high-level advocacy visit to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, in a bold and proactive step toward addressing longstanding concerns within the health sector.
President of the association, Professor Bala Mohammed Audu, paid the advocacy visit to the Minister of Finance on Tuesday alongside the President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr Tope Osundara.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the NMA, Dr Mannir Bature, said the visit was aimed at advancing the push for the immediate resolution of critical financial entitlements owed to doctors across the country.
Top among the issues discussed were the long-outstanding Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) arrears, Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), and other essential emoluments affecting medical practitioners in the federal health system.
Chief Edun received the delegation warmly, commending the selfless service and enduring resilience of Nigerian doctors amid economic uncertainties.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s strong commitment to ensuring that all outstanding arrears are addressed without further delay, and acknowledged the vital role doctors play in sustaining national stability and wellbeing.
In his remarks, Professor Audu expressed gratitude for the Minister’s assurances and emphasised the urgency of translating commitments into tangible action. He reiterated the NMA’s dedication to peaceful dialogue and collaboration in pursuit of fairness, justice, and the restoration of trust within the health workforce.
This engagement reflects the NMA’s sustained and strategic efforts to champion the welfare of its members, and signals a renewed hope for improved morale and industrial harmony across the nation’s health sector.
