Northwest University Kano receives MDCN accreditation for MBBS programme

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted approval to Northwest University Kano to continue its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.

The Head of Public Relations Unit of the university, Abubakar Ibrahim, who disclosed this in a statement, said the accreditation status marks a significant step forward for the institution and reinforces its commitment to producing highly skilled medical professionals.

He said the accreditation team led by the Registrar of the Council, Dr Fatima Kyari, visited the university for the final phase of the verification exercise, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey towards full medical training accreditation.

The delegation was received by the university community, led by Professor Abubakar S. Garba, who welcomed the MDCN team on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa.

In his address, Professor Garba delivered the vice chancellor’s goodwill message and expressed profound gratitude to the MDCN team for their commitment to upholding the highest standards in medical education.

He emphasized the university’s dedication to meeting the rigorous requirements of medical training and highlighted the intensive efforts made by faculty members, administrators, and students in preparing for the accreditation process.

He further assured the MDCN delegation that Northwest University Kano remains steadfast in its mission to produce competent medical professionals who will contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector.

Professor Garba also extended appreciation to the Kano State Government for its support and investment in the university’s medical programme.

The MDCN team comprised prominent medical professionals, including Professor Mustapha Imam, Professor A.A. Bakari, and Dr. N.U. Nwakama, the Deputy Registrar of MDCN, among other distinguished experts.

“After an extensive verification process, the MDCN granted approval to Northwest University Kano to continue its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.

“The achievement of this accreditation status marks a significant step forward for the institution and reinforces its commitment to producing highly skilled medical professionals,” the statement said.

The PRO added that Dr Fatima Kyari expressed her satisfaction with the remarkable progress achieved by the university and commended the leadership for its commitment to excellence.

She also applauded members of the university community for their collective efforts in making Northwest University Kano one of the leading medical institutions in the country.

According to him, the accreditation of the MBBS programme is expected to enhance the university’s reputation and attract aspiring medical students from across the nation.

“This milestone reflects the university’s dedication to academic excellence and its continuous efforts to contribute to Nigeria’s healthcare sector,” he added.
