The Director-General, National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Zakari Kazaure said about 500 persons will benefit from the corps Medical Outreach organized in Mana-Babba community, Sokoto South Local Government Area.
The director general who was represented by a Deputy Director, Mrs. Mary Akuso, at the launching of the one-day programme tagged: “Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers,” Brigadier Kazaure said the initiative was conceived over two years ago, but has gained national acceptance.
“Volunteer corps medical personnel who will form the core of the team will work as health intervention agents in driving the programme of the health initiative. The outreach is designed to address the health challenges of the rural dwellers,” he added.
The state NYSC Coordinator in Sokoto, Mr. Thomas Yamma, said that residents of the community would get free consultations, medical tests and drugs.
Mr. Yamma also explained that provisions were made for referrals where necessary.
The Team Leader, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, explained that the outreach was aimed at complementing the efforts of the three tiers of government in providing efficient healthcare services to the people.
The District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar, commended the corps members for volunteering to offer the free medical services to the community.
