The Kaduna State Chapter of the Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS, has appealed to the state government to assist its members with food supplement to improve their nutritional status.
Secretary of the network, Malam Aliyu Sada, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna.
“We are calling on the state government to look into the issue of food and nutrition for people living with HIV and AIDS. Because nutrition is crucial in improving the quality of life of people living with HIV and AIDS, because it provides the nutrients our body needs and keep our immune system stronger to better fight the disease.
“This is because our body experiences changes, both from the condition and medications and we usually experience extreme weight loss. As such, improving our diet will greatly improve our health status,” he said.
Malam Sada commended the state government for consistently providing free anti-retroviral drugs for infected persons across the state.
The scribe, however, urged the government to take the drugs more closely to the victims, to alleviate their suffering.
He said that those living in hard-to-reach areas travel long distances to access the drugs.
