United Kingdom has accepted the recommendation from the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use.
This was contained in a statement made available to news men, stating that the vaccine will be made available across the UK from next week.
According to agency report from NAN, United Kingdom is the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for use.
US-German based pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech, had earlier submitted their COVID-19 vaccine to the European Medicines Agency for conditional approval.
The partners, a U.S. pharma giant and a small German biotechnology firm specialising in nascent mRNA technology on Monday, said their application has been confirmed after it was submitted.
Pfizer chief executive Albert Bourla, hailed the approval, describing it as another key milestone in its efforts to alleviate the health crisis together with BioNTech.
Their vaccine has been found to be 95 per cent effective against COVID-19 in clinical tests. Like Moderna, Biontech and Pfizer have also applied to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for emergency approval.
