No fewer than 184,302 children will be immunized against polio disease in Birniwa, Kafin-Hausa and Kirikasamma Local Government Areas of Jigawa state.
News men report that, the children will be immunized against polio and other childhood killer diseases in the ongoing January round of Immunization Plus Days.
The Manager, National Programme on Immunization in charge of Birniwa, Malam Umar Bello, , said that 38,000 children would be immunized against the disease in the area.
Bello who said that the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency had supplied 45,000 doses of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV), to facilitate smooth conduct of the exercise explained that, 218 health workers were deployed for the conduct of the exercise in the area while in Kafin-Hausa 85,302 children were expected to be immunized against poliomyelitis during the immunization exercise.
On his part, the Immunization Officer, Malam Abdullahi Sarawa, said that more than 89, 000 doses of OPV were provided to ensure success of the campaign against the disease and that some 527 health workers have been deployed to the eight districts for the exercise in the area. Also speaking,
Similarly, the Director, Primary Healthcare Agency in the area,Alhaji Salisu Falalu, called on parents to present their children for immunization to protect them against polio and other diseases.
He commended religious and community leaders for mobilizing people to participate and the local council for its support towards the exercise.
Meanwhile, the Health Educator, Kirikasamma Local Government Mr Adamu Abubakar, said that 61,000 children were targeted for immunization against polio in the ongoing exercise and over 61,000 doses of vaccines have been provided for the exercise in the area.
