Rotary applauds volunteers, religious leaders on polio eradication

Rotary International, has lauded the efforts of Volunteers Community Mobilisation (VCM) and religious leaders in the fight against polio.

The representative of the organisation, Malam Auwalu Yakasai, made the commendation in Kano. He said the organisation had identified two volunteers for their selfless service in polio immunisation in the state and honoured them.

He said that the organisation also identified the positive role played by traditional institutions and the volunteers, which he described as worth awarding.

Yakasai urged other organisations to identify their roles in advocating against the deadly child disease.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, revealed that the state has not recorded any case of polio in the past 30 months.

Dr. Getso attributed the success to the cooperation and hard work of the government for approving and releasing the necessary logistics on time.

Newsmen report that Rotary International organised the reception to appreciate religious leaders and volunteers for their role in polio eradication.
