Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to ensure full implementation of Primary Health Care (PHC) Under One Roof policy.
Tambuwal stated this at the launching and dissemination of the state’s Community Partnership Strategy on PHC Services, describing the programme as beneficial to all categories of people especially rural dwellers.
Represented by state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Ali Inname, the governor said the partnership strategy document would serve as one of his guides.
He noted that the document has inputs from experts, traditional rulers, community leaders, community based groups, donor agencies and other stakeholders.
The lead Consultant that prepared the document, Dr Muktar Gadanya, described PHCs as important component in healthcare delivery activities being closer to grassroots.
Gadanya said community participation on PHC administration as well as partnership with higher health facilities would surely enhance its effective services.
The Emir of Das in Bauchi State, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu, said launching the document was a landmark achievement in health policy administration, noting that similar document was launched in Bauchi state and it facilitated great successes.
Bilyaminu enjoined Ward Development Committees (WDCs), traditional and religious institutions as well as implementing officials to be transparent and live up to expectation.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, said community involvement on all policies serve as booster to successful implementation and urged other governments to key in due to its benefits to people and enhanced coverage.
Abubakar III, who was represented by the District Head of Wurno, Alhaji Kabiru Alhassan, described the launch as timely, stressing that the document will promote health awareness and proper management of PHCs.
Newsmen report that the event was attended by the Executive Secretary, Sokoto State Primary Health Carr Development Agency, Alhaji Abdullahi Romo, state and local government officials, groups and traditional rulers.
