The Sokoto State Commissioner for Health, Dr Balarabe Kakale, has inaugurated 23 Local Government Logistics Management Coordinating Units (LMCU) for proper transportation of healthcare items across the state.
Dr Kakale said improving public health was collective responsibility of all, stating that professional modalities were required to transport drugs, equipment, consumables and other essential items of health delivery to the end users.
The commissioner said the committees comprised 230 persons, including Directors of Health, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, Vaccines and Cold Chain Officers.
He added that other members were Health Educators, Health Managers and representatives of the community, as well as developmental partners. According to him, 10 members are selected from each of the 23 local government areas of the state.
He expressed optimism that their activities would ensure professional handling of health items and facilitate delivery to hospitals in the state. Dr Kakale said the objective of setting up the committees was to ensure that items reached targeted hospitals safely and in well-coordinated manner based on professional health practices.
In his remarks, the Director General of Sokoto State Malaria Elimination Agency, Dr Aminu Umar, stressed the committees’ importance to movement of health care items. He urged members to work hard and ensure maximum success of government programmes.
The Project Manager of Sokoto State Save One Million Lives Programme, Dr Bello Arkilla, commended government’s commitment to promoting health activities across the state. He described the inauguration of the committees as stimulants to safeguarding public health.
Responding on behalf of the committee members, the Director of Health, Yabo Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Hassan, assured the people of improved services and called on people to support the committees’ activities.
Hassan described health care delivery as collective responsibility of various technical and non-technical persons.
