The Sokoto State Government has set up a task force to tackle the menace of illicit drug trafficking, the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Balarabe Kakale, has said.
The commissioner who spoke in an interview with newsmen in Sokoto said the government releases N500, 000 monthly to the task force.
Dr. Kakale said the money is a monthly imprest set aside for the routine operations of an inter-agency task force formed by the state government.
“The task force was set up due to the concerns of the state government to curb the ever-increasing menace of trafficking of illicit drugs and abuse. Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is as equally concerned about this menace, just like other law abiding residents of the state.”
Dr. Kakale said that the task force membership was drawn from the ministry, security agencies, NDLEA, NAFDAC, and other related agencies, as well as organisations.
The commissioner said that fighting the drug war was the responsibility of all Nigerians.
