The Wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Gimbiya Yakubu Dogara has donated medical and other items to National Obstetrics Fistula Centre Ningi in Bauchi state
Mrs. Gimbiya Dogara who made the donation to the centre through her Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) ‘Sun of Hope Foundation’, assured that the President’s Wife, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari would soon visit the facility to undertake a comprehensive assessment with a view to improve it.
She further explained that her foundation was established with the objective of assisting women in health care delivery, education and economic empowerment.
She appealed to well meaning Nigerians, philanthropists and other NGOs to come to the aid of the VVF patients.
Items donated by the speaker’s wife included, computers, beds, mattresses, detergents and foodstuffs.
Receiving the items, Medical Director of the centre, Dr. Umar N. Ibrahim said the centre has carried out corrective surgery to over 400 patients.
The Medical Director said the centre has recorded about 90 per cent success rate on the operation it carried out since its establishment two years ago.
Dr. Ibrahim added that the centre was established to serve the North Eastern states but now cater for patients from all parts of the country as well as neighbouring countries of Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic.
He however informed that the centre still operates from the temporary site it is sharing with Ningi General Hospital due to lack of structures at its permanent site.
He commended the Aisha Buhari and Gimbiya Dogara for their contributions towards the uplifting women, children and the less privileged in the country.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to provide take off grant to the centre and called on speaker’s and president’s wife and other NGOs to build a rehabilitation centre for the VVF patients as well as provide an Ambulance and another utility vehicle to assist in its operation.
