Students Showcase Innovations at 2nd Dr Aminu Magashi’s Annual Dabo Health Discourse

The Kano State Medical Students Association (KAMSA) held the 2nd edition of the Dr. Aminu Magashi’s Annual Dabo Health Discourse last Friday, at the Dentistry Theatre, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.

This was contained in a statement issued by the AHBN Director of Operations, Jalo Sulaiman.

He said the health discourse, a healthcare pitching competition for innovative healthcare solutions, was conceived by KAMSA in 2024, while the maiden edition took place in 2025.

Five teams of medical students pitched innovative healthcare solutions at the 2nd Edition.

•⁠  ⁠DibDos CareLink, a digital blood mobilization system.

•⁠  ⁠DiWex, a post-discharge care solution to curb maternal and neonatal mortality in Nigeria.

•⁠  ⁠EveryMum Antenatal Toolkit Initiative, an initiative to improve maternal health through early danger sign recognition.

•⁠  ⁠E-Mama, a local solution to reduce high maternal and newborn mortality, improve ANC attendance, and prevent late emergency presentations.

•⁠  ⁠HospSpace, a real-time hospital bed and emergency resource tracking system.

In his opening remarks, KAMSA Welfare Officer, Sunusi Bala, who also served as the Chief Coordinator of the competition, stated that 19 entries were received through the Google application form, and a panel of preliminary judges selected the top five.

He also highlighted the judging criteria.

In his closing remarks, Mallam Jalo Sulaiman, Director of Operations at the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation, thanked the preliminary judges, final judges, and KAMSA executives for their efforts.

He congratulated the winners and encouraged them to implement their ideas. Mallam Jalo announced cash prizes: ₦100,000 for 1st place, ₦75,000 for 2nd place, ₦50,000 for 3rd place, and ₦25,000 each for the 4th and 5th runners-up, along with certificates.

The statement added that a lunch meeting between the winners, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and Coordinator of the AHBN, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba will be organise in a later date.
