The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has unveiled the 2016 report on the State of the World Population (SWOP) for 2016.

The UNFPA Executive Director, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, made this known to newsmen in Abuja.

He said the purpose of the report is to enlighten the public on critical issues on population, family planning and sustainable development.

Dr. Osotimehin added that the report would enhance advocacy for improved legislative, policy and programmatic actions on    reproductive health, including family planning and young peoples’ issues in Nigeria.

The theme of the 2016 SWOP report is “Investing in supporting 10-Year-Old Girls: What Is at Stake.”

He said the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its accompanying 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world’s blueprint for equitable, inclusive development that leaves no one behind.
