The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), on Saturday, realised more than N4 billion at the relaunch of its Endowment Fund.
The donations were made by some prominent personalities shortly after the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees and an appointment of the title of Emeritus to three distinguished Professors from the university in Maiduguri.
Nigerian businessman and a philanthropist, Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, was the highest donor with N2 billion.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa also announced a donation of N1.8 billion on behalf of the six Governors of the North-Eastern States.
Chief Emeka Offor, a respected philanthropist, who was also honoured with honorary doctorate degree donated N250 million.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima, encouraged wealthy Nigerians to support the country’s education system to secure the future of young Nigerians for the realisation of its socio-economic development.
Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno announced scholarship awards for 220 lecturers at the UNIMAID to pursue Doctor of Philosophy.
The governor said the initiative targeted 200 indigenes and 20 non-indigenes of Borno.
“I wish to announce a scholarship scheme to 220 lecturers of University of Maiduguri to pursue their doctorate degrees.
“Out of the number, 100 will have the opportunity to study abroad while 120, will study in universities within Nigeria,” he said.
