Kano state Commissoner of Women Affairs and Social development, Hajiya Zubaida Abubakar said the state government has treated 132 Vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF) patients, at the Kwalli VVF Centre, Kano.
The commissioner, who stated this in an interview with news men, said the state government in collaboration with the United Nations Population and Fistula Foundation Nigeria sponsored the rehabilitation programme.
She added that the rehabilitated women were trained in various trades, including knitting, sewing, pomade and spaghetti making, among others. She added that the empowerment would enable the women to establish
businesses of their choice.
Hajiya Zubaida said that the women were also presented with the sewing, knitting, grinding and spaghetti making machines, saying the state government has planned to rehabilitate another batch of 150 VVF patients this year.
